Springtime may technically be here but in Hilton Head Island it’s not all warm and cozy outside. Your furnace has been working for months trying to keep your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some TLC. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has stopped operating, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a severe gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning straightaway.

Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

  • Check that your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we get busy and life happens, so it’s very easy to miss the simple fixes. Forgetting to change over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair when really you can resolve the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you might look at regularly. Most systems have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about contacting our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your system run more efficiently and postpone any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs get to be pricey, so avoid a possible issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
