Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC maintenance technician to stop by and complete your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to clear away branches and leaves that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your utility bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your cooling equipment is set to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
