Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your A/C system constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC service technician to stop by and complete your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to remove branches and leaves that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Epperson Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they perform your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could even damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your utility bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Epperson Service Experts today to make sure your cooling equipment is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
