What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Hilton Head Island always writes about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Epperson Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
