What causes indoor air pollution?

Many common items may contribute to inferior indoor air quality in your Hilton Head Island residence.

This includes:

  • Compounds in [carpeting, furniture and drapes that let off fumes
  • Cleaning products
  • Paint
  • Personal care products
  • Air fresheners and candles

Though they are usually more efficient, updated homes don’t ventilate the way older residences do. Tight weather stripping and storm doors keep inside air in and outdoor air out. This gives higher energy savings, but the lowered exchange of outdoor and indoor air can cause particles increasing indoors.

When this occurs, a whole-house ventilation system is suggested. Ventilation systems replace polluted interior air for cleaner exterior air without sacrificing energy savings.
